In Vogue!

Take a peek at our new location at 119 Atlantic in Vogue:

In the market for a towering six-foot French birdcage, a five-foot-long Nile Monitor lizard, an eighteenth-century gallstone funnel, or a life-size vintage Steiff zebra? These are just some of the oddities one might discover at Holler & Squall, Brooklyn Heights’s very own curiosity shop of sorts, where the bizarre and unusual coexist with beautifully worn tufted leather furniture and antique threadbare scatter rugs. “We didn’t want to be a typical antiques store, stuck in one period,” explains Gillette Wing (hence expect a mere smattering of Victorian and no more than a dash of mid-century), who, along with her husband and co-owner Zachariah (Zak), recently decided to move their treasures to a new, larger location. The new store opened its doors this past Saturday, and fans will be glad to know that it has even more of their beloved marvels (including a set of four police shooting targets from the 1940s), in addition to some great vintage furniture pieces. “My favorite is a pair of petite green leather love seats from France, with tuxedo arms that are the perfect size and color,” says Gillette. Zak, on the other hand, favors three pairs of 1920s French club chairs upholstered in velvet jewel tones. “We try to find things that are amazing, interesting, and decorative,” adds Gillette, “—but still practical.”
